Arabic/LearnRW/Row 2
- ط (Taa) is an emphatic letter. It is an emphatic of the sound "t". This means it is pronounced with the tongue pushing harder against the top of the mouth than is usual for a "t" sound. Because it is an emphatic, its vowels usually sound different. Accordingly, this letter's name (usually) rhymes with the English word "law".
- ظ (Zaa) is an emphatic letter. It is an emphatic of the sound "dh" as in "this". It is not an emphatic of the "z" sound.
